You’ve never heard of April Intellectuals’ Day?
I guess that’s expected. Unbeknownst to most people, April Intellectuals’ Day was founded by a small group of thinkers – on the very same day as April Fools’ Day – in response to the celebration of fools on April Fools’ Day. It was celebrated by making it a point to indulge in intellectual discourse all day long.
Sadly, society preferred celebrating the asinine to the intelligent. It was more fun pranking people anyway, and ironically intellectual one-upmanship is not much different from showing how you’re smarter than someone else for not falling for a trick.
So April Intellectuals’ Day passed into obscurity, while April Fools’ Day remains a strong tradition to this very day.
